this puppy only bites my friend, none of her other family members, she got it at the pound, after her other dog passed away. she is heart broken, and has tried all kinds of methods to control this dog.
suggestions please?What advice do you have for a biting pup, 13 weeks old?
Mary M is correct. If her method doesn't work, you have to be more aggressive. When the dog bites, smack it on the snout and say, ';No bite!'; DON';T hit the nose, just the snout. No dog should ever be allowed to take fingers, toes, etc into their mouths. If allowed to even play-bite they learn they can bite humans.What advice do you have for a biting pup, 13 weeks old?
Its a puppy thing
~~~~~~~THIS METHOD WORKS~~~~~~~
Take a squirt bottle and fill it with water. Set it to stream, not mist. Your friend needs to always have this squirt bottle around when she's with her dog. Every time the dog bites, she hits it in the face with a squirt of water from the bottle and firmly scolds, ';NO bite!';
I had the same problem with my puppy, she bit like a piranha. After a few squirts she was suddenly the most self-controlled puppy in the world.
I would suggest that whenever the puppy bit her, to grab the puppy's bottom jaw firmly, but not that hard, with your thumb inside the puppy's mouth on the bottom, right behind the front teeth, and your fingers on her chin, just hold on for a min, the puppy will try to resist this, and tell her no. After a few times of that, she will get the point, and probably leave her alone. When she is bitting, get her a toy and play fetch or tug-a-war with her, she is just wanting attention.
train it (doggie school)
teach the dog who its master is. if that doesnt work send him hear to texas my dogs will straighten him out!!
In a stern voice she needs to tell the dog not to bite, best way is to hold a treat and when the pup tries to take it and bites at her, she needs to take it back and lightly tap it on the nose and say ';No'; and tell it not to bite. She needs to keep it up until the pup waits to be given the treat, and when it don't bite, then she can give it to it and say 'Good dog' to it.
When my dog bit me, i bit her back. She hasnt bitten anyone since.
Bitter apple spray that u can get at any pet store. Then puppy obedience classes.
With our puppy we just HOWLED in pain (fake, of course) like he'd really hurt us. He was startled. After reacting like that to a few of his nips he never did it again. We were thinking he didn't know he was inflicting pain until we responded in a way another dog would do. It worked for us.
I think biting him/her back is a mean and horrible idea! try not to get your puppy over excited, that can cause your puppy to bite.If her puppy bites her. tell her first say no! then try to
stand up tall fold you arms and look away.
