What advice would you give to someone considering a Marketing degree?

Marketing is concerned with ensuring that your product reaches as many customers as possible at the right price. Any and every activity that goes into ensuring this is more or less a part of marketing. The scope of marketing is huge and consists of advertising, branding, market analysis, pricing, promotion, product design, channel design etc.

If you enjoy thinking out of the box and presenting your ideas then marketing is a good choice. The field demands creativity, ability and willingness to interact with a lot of people including management and customers, analytical ability to understand and predict demand and sales and finally it demands perseverance and persistence beyond setbacks.

There are some tips that you should keep in mind

a) Marketing is not sales. No matter what anyone says sales planning and review is part of marketing and not the other way around. Be very careful in interviews regarding this. Speak directly with placement companies like Naukri.com and clarify your desire to work in marketing. No matter what anyone tells you, their are enough companies out their who recruit management trainees for marketing.

b) Marketing is not all glamor. The initial years will involve a lot of hard work. But you will also receive opportunities to display your creativity of wisdom.

So, in conclusion go for it. For all its challenges the rewards are worth it. I hope to see your first product on TV soon.

Is that something you really want to do? A lot of people seem to be going to college to get a business or marketing degree, but they only want the money. A job of any sort will not be very enjoyable if you are only doing it for the money.
Good luck with that !!
GO FOR IT!!! I am a Marketing student and it's the easiest major you can do, unless you like do look over alot of numbers (accounting) or if you're good at analyzing data (finance). All the classes are similar to the other classes and you can reuse the work that you did for other classes.

Another thing is this: if you are an Accounting major or any other major, you have the same skills as everyone else. Marketing is all about creativity and presentation. Every marketing job out there is different, unlike accounting or finance.

Here a fact: about 45% of all CEO are Marketing majors and they have a ';C'; average. The reason that they are CEO's is because they have the ability to think outside the box.
do it

thats what i applied for

its on the top 10 list .. (as #1!!!) for hightest paying job outa college
have a crack at it
besides your core classes in Marketing, be sure to develop good computer skills and takes lots of general classes in every discipline i.e. pychology, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, etc. the gal that just got promoted to marketing director where i work is only in her mid twenties and barely out of college, about 3 years, but since her general field(s) knowledge was so diverse, she beat out some more seasoned applicants.
