I want to buy a bird for a pet, can you give me any advice?

I have been a long time bird person, and I have now decided to buy myself a pet bird. I want something beautiful, and something to too small. I really like the macaws, but they are way way out of my price range. I am looking to spend around $150 for the bird, cage, and all. Can you give me advice on what I can get for that price and what would be best for a first time bird owner?I want to buy a bird for a pet, can you give me any advice?
You aren't going to get a bird, cage and all for that price. Cages alone cost that ammount for any decent size cage. Birds start at $20 for a budgie and go up from there. You will need food, cuttlebone, at least 5 toys, various kinds of perches, not just the dowel ones, and money set aside for a well bird exam at a local avian vet.

Start up costs for a less costly bird $250 and under will run around $800 for everything.I want to buy a bird for a pet, can you give me any advice?
Well from my experience since i own two parrots i own a blue and gold macaw and a orange winged amazon they need alot of attention. Since you want a small parrot or bird you can probably get a Green-Cheeked Conure. Cage requirements for a Green Cheek are easy. They do not require a large cage, just be cautious of the bar spacing so that it is not too wide for them. 22'; x 24'; with 5/8'; or 3/4'; bar spacing is recommended. Shredder toys will be appreciated, those that have string, small beads, etc. on them. A healthy diet of pellets, some nuts and seeds, fresh vegetables and fruit, all will be enjoyed by this little power house. This parrot comes costing around 200$. They are quiet loving parrots. They love being outside of their cage and love spending time with their owners. They can also be taught to speak. It might take a little bit of patients at first but as soon as you spend time with them you will fall in love with your bird/parrot. =]
Well i would reckomend Budgies they make very good pets if hand trained at quite a young age and some budgies can be taught to talk. Males are usually friendlier than female as females have a nastier bite and tend to be more bitey and scratchy. I've had budgies since i was 8 and i have really enjoyed playing with them. My first budgie was a male and my mum and i trained him and he turned out very friendly . The cage which was the size for 1 budgie only and him costed about $100 NZ. Budgies are also VERY good first time bird owners!
Well I have had many birds I now have a cockatoo. If your only looking to spend 150 on a cage than you shouldn't get any thing bigger than an cockateal witch are great birds an can even learn to say a few words . Sun conards are also neat little guys. Just remember birds are very fragile with allot of cleaners and smoke and must be kept very clean by the time you notice they are sick its usually to late. Good luck!! you might want to visit some bird farms an breeders talk to them an meet diff breeds. Try to stay away from pet stores...
Get a parakeet because they are not so loud. They are small and you can train them.. Just in the first few days, don't try to take it out because it needs to get used to its cage... And dont make any noise on the first few days so they don't freak out.

Good luck!!
well one thing is do u have any non stick cookware? well if soo this is harmful to the birds. also if you want something little i would recomend the parakeet. nd if u wnt something a lil bigger i recommed the cockatiel in which i have i purchased her at petsmart for $75.. Great pets but need alot of attention..
I say go for a love bird. They do comand lots of interaction from you, if you do not have the time to play with your bird daily, then I recommend getting 2. If you dont want lovebirds I say go for a cockatiel
a budgie. they are easy to take care if, they wont smell if you take care of them. and do some reaserch before you get one.
wait intil you have a better budjet to afford suitable living conditions i would reccomend a lovebird
