What advice could you give to someone rebuilding old stone walls on barn?

what type of mix would I need and how to lay, price per square metre, any building regs (u.k) any advice etc on thickness and if building alongside a block wall, eg in cavity wall etc? What advice could you give to someone rebuilding old stone walls on barn?
You don't have to use full depth stone.

If you have a stone that is 15 inches deep, you can just face of the front with 4inch.

If its red sand stone your mix needs to be 5 red sand 1 lime 1 cement.

You can face a block wall using 4 inch stone.

Any stone that has a rotten face, but is OK deeper in, just hack out and face with new stone.

Your best bet is to get a quote from your local mason.

You don't need to give him the work but you can find out what he suggests. What advice could you give to someone rebuilding old stone walls on barn?
you would need a standard motar mix which goes for about $4.00 a #80 bag. dry fit your rock's first to make sure they fit as snug as possible before laying mortar mix. a free standing wall would have to be a least 1 1/2 feet thick to stand but one built along side of an existing wall can be much thinner if you install some metal strips with concrete screws to anchor your new wall to as your building it. as for any local laws, check with your local zoneing board.
If you do it the old fashion way, like dig the rocks out of the field and make your own cement from straw and mud, it won't cost you a cent! And watch out for falling rocks.
Wear steel top capped boots and a hard hat. You never know when those buggers will fall
