Do you have any advice on keeping gerbils?

I might be getting some soon and I was wondering if you guys in answers-land had any suggestions?Do you have any advice on keeping gerbils?
*You will need cardboard for them. and LOTS of it.

*Be sure to get them in pairs! They need a buddy and have a better quality of life with them!

*Don't get plastic cages or toys. They will chew right through it

*Don't get pine, cedar, or softwood bedding

*Get a mesh wheel

*Don't give them baths

*Don't hold them by the tail; it will come off; and won't grow back

*You can hold them by the base of the tail; only when necessary though; they don't like it much!

*They LOVE sunflower seeds and peanut butter! seeds are healthier though

*Don't give them too many treats!

These are GREAT sources of info:

Gerbils are always adorable and are very funny and very interesting pets to watch. Good luck :DDo you have any advice on keeping gerbils?
You are so very welcome! :D

Joe's advice is good too. It's best to adopt gerbils, like I did!

If you have any questions, feel free to email me!

Best of luck! =D

I would just like to suggest looking for your new pet(s) on petfinder.com. I think that it is much nicer to adopt a rodent from a rescue/shelter than to support unnecessary breeding that pet stores use to maintain their stock. I just recently found my two lovely gerbils on that website and I am so happy that I was able to give them a good forever home that they will appreciate. Good luck finding your new friend(s)!
just make sure you clean there cages often and feed them a variety of food such as, there pellets, mixed grains, lettuce, carrots.. oh and when they die, you will feel like its your fault and you will have to slowly watch them wiggle away to heaven. its very sad.. i will never get a rodent ever again. goodluck =)
Keep the gay dudes away from them.
