1. look at many, in the areas of your choice
2. visit them during the day and at night
3. make sure you can afford it
4. make sure you have a decent deposit
5. take another responsible adult with you when you are veiwing a property
6. ask lots of questions
7. don't be in a rushWhat advice would you give a young girl looking for her first property?
I've just rented my first accommodation, and my tip that I got from people who have lived there before is to take photographs of everything in there as you move in, and date them. That way, when you move out they can't charge you for ';damages'; if they were there already, and you should get your deposit back.
OK - firstly look at about 10% above your budget
Secondly, only look in areas you know you will like
Thirdly, try and be totally immune to the estate agents blurb(I am one!)
Ohhh and assuming you are having a mortgage, make sure your mortgage company has any potential properties surveyed.
first think where you would like to be ,then how much you can afford, then go there in the evenings ,weekends, look what is happening around you ,is there gangs hanging around etc, also never buy near church, schools, pubs .
Areas you might like maybe hard to find these days, prices being as high as they are
#Best thing I would say is make sure its been looked after and you wont have to spend on repairs.
go for it, you never get bargains like today again in your life.
make sure it doesn't fall down and the neihbours are nice
