I'm about to buy a gerbil but i have no experiance on them. I go to sites i looked up to read a bit on it but nothing is telling me what i want to know like how often should the gerbil be feed, what good and bad for them to eat, etc. What is the best advice you have on Gerbils and caring for them?
Good for you! Gerbils are awesome pets. If you get one gerbil, then you should get 2. If you are able to spend 1-2 hours a day with them, then one would be fine. I would suggest 2, for they are happier. They will need something to chew on at all times, and some sort of shelter. I suggest to get 2 gerbils that are already friends. Please give them some sort of bedding that does not have pine, cedar, or aspen in it. I recently had a problem with my gerbil and is now on medication because she was allergic to the bedding. A good choice would be care fresh, or cozy critters. You should give them food not daily, but when you see shells and a good 2 cm. of food missing. Do not let the gerbils trick you though, if they to much food, or changed out daily, they will get picky. Good luck! What is the best advice you have on Gerbils and caring for them?
Here you go... http://agsgerbils.org/Learn/Gerbil_Care_鈥?/a>
Tells you everything you need to know, from housing to behavior to food, etc.
How much you give your gerbils depends on how many you have. You should get at least 2 same-sex gerbils from the same litter. I give mine a good sized handful of gerbil mix a day. (I use Kaytee, but pick out the sunflower and pumpkin seeds and use those as treats).
Use sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds as hand treats to use for hand taming, etc. You can give them small amounts of some fruits or veggies, but not too much or too often as it will give them diarrhea. Sometimes people give them Rice Krispies as treats as well. They shouldn't be given anything else - no sweets, cheese, etc.
I suggest you read the link I gave you before getting gerbils, that way you are prepared.
Well look on the back of the gerbil food bag and it will tell you how often you should feed your gerbils. and when you go to a petstore the will answer all you questions. but before you buy your gerbil you should look up pet rats on wikipedia.com the are very very smart and if you liked this answer plz select it as the best.
gerbils are ok but there are many greater pets like guinea pigs and rats in my experiance they are much cuter and loyal the two gerbils i jhad bit me everytime i poured food in there cups i couldn't even pick them up :(
